Good afternoon everyone,
I look forward to seeing you all in class on Saturday, March 28 to work on our English skills. To allow us to maximize our time together and prioritize oral communication, I have prepared 2 exercises to complete at home over the next two weeks in preparation for class. Below is a short outline of our objective, the at home assignments, and what we will cover during our time together – I have also attached to this email a PDF with the same information. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if anything is unclear of if anyone has difficulty accessing the Google Sheets document required to complete the vocabulary tables.
Objectives:
- Work together to create a bank of relevant English vocabulary for working in the music library and/or other areas of artistic administration
- Improve professional email and CV writing in English
- Improve oral communication in English
To be completed at home by Wednesday, March 25th
- As a group: complete vocabulary tables by translating all French vocabulary terms into English or other languages when specified. Instructions can be found within the document. This is a shared document, no need to submit by email.
- Individually: translate your current CV/resume into English. Please submit both the original French version and the English version by email by Wednesday, March 25th.

In class:
- Review both assignments completed at home
- Draft professional emails as a group to respond to examples of typical messages one might receive as a principal librarian
- Practice oral communication by role-playing situations relevant to working in the library, in the rehearsal room, in a concert venue, or on tour
- Review verbs and/or vocabulary which prove challenging throughout the course of the workshop, both in written and oral communication
- A brief look at differences between work culture in French arts organisations and those of organisations in English-speaking countries
Please bring a pencil/pen and paper with you on the 28th – we will not be using laptops, tablets, or phones to aid us during class.
Thank you,
Speak soon,
